been having fun studying the samurai lately. lots of interesting stuff. watching lots of Kurosawa movies too. excellent films. i highly recommend them

Very cool. Also, Kurosawa was an amazing director. Love his films. This picture makes me think of one of the final scenes in "Throne of Blood." Again, very cool.

thanks im glad you like.

back in the day the samurai commanders rarely joined the fray of battle. they would sit with their retainers and signal the troops with some sort of object. that object was either a paddle with a symbol on it or a fan. they used bright contrasting colors so that it could be seen from a distance.
