Description

*story*-----------

Testing of the Anubis Engine went far better than expected. They were expected to last through the test run, but no one expected the surprise attack by hostile forces. Even more surprising was their continued functionality after the test team was KIA. In light of these results we propose deploying small Anubis teams at different fronts to see how they perform while development and refinement of Anubis and its related parts will be prioritized. We foresee great potential in this project and hope you approve of our proposed budget to make the Anubis the greatest asset in your army.

Anubis Project R&D team's report to the Pharaoh

-----------------------

ahhhh Ancient Space Egyptians.

So the Anubis is a type of soldier i came up with awhile ago. I wanted to play off the ancient Egyptians beliefs in the afterlife, mummies, and reanimation. i chose Anubis for his associations to mummification and the afterlife.

the concept is that when a soldier dies in combat if his/her body is still intact then it is collected and brought back to base. this is where the Anubis Engine comes into play. The Anubis Engine is essentially a preservative suit of mechanical armor that uses the dead body as a base to aid in movement and to keep its form. This allows fallen soldiers to be redeployed for future use in the battlefield.

The suit is heavy and requires a considerable amount of energy to power. power is derived from a small fusion reactor in the back of the suit (like Iron Man.) Electrical impulses are also employed to make the suit move and to trigger the muscles of the body to perform functions ( i.e pulling the trigger, walking, turning the head, etc.) Due to the nature of suit and the body inside movements are jerky at best and the whole unit moves at a lumbering pace.

Speed is not an issue however. The greatest advantage of the Anubis is that standard caliber bullets will do little to bring it down. due to the dead state of the body and the mechanical nature of the suit theres nothing that can technically be killed. explosives would be the only option. coupled with solid infantry support the Anubis could potentially form a strong offensive wall while drawing fire away from the infantry support.

Offensively the Anubis is capable of sporting modified hand mounted versions of many rifles. the one pictured here has a .50 caliber machine gun that can only fire in 3 shot bursts. other weapons include modified belt fed assault rifles and grenade launchers. the weight of the weapons does affect performance so heavier weapons are not issued as often because of their taxing effect on the power source. most weapons would be belt fed from a back pack and have a large amount of ammunition. reloading would have to be done manually by a retainer (Think the Matrix:Revolutions when the robots need to be reloaded only smaller.)

I enjoyed working on this one a lot and expect more from the Ancient Egypt series.

Concept:

This isn't totally original but very underused. It's the fridge logic bit of "hey there's a suit of power armor with an AI in it, if the wearer is dead wouldn't the AI be able to take over?"

Yes. However, you've sort of overestimated mechanical systems.

As bullets perforate the device and damage is sustained, hydraulics fail and pneumatics freeze. Microcontrollers moving the motors snap and become useless, and the thing rather quickly comes apart under fire.

The suit is okay, uhh... I'd rather it be armed with a weapon in it's hand? But this is okay I guess.

Art direction looks good, overall, 7.5/10.
