B5 Eland Ranger by CrazyAsian1 B5 Eland Ranger by CrazyAsian1
In the world of Big Five drones are not used exclusively for anti-poaching. While protecting the animals is top priority, monitoring them and their whereabouts is equally important, if not more so. In fact there are more drones employed in observational roles than anti-poaching.  Such drones typically take on the appearance of non-threatening animals such as birds, small mammals, and the numerous species of Antelopes known to inhabit the various regions of Africa.

One such drone type is the Eland variant. Large, imposing, and graceful, Elands are used for overt observation/patrolling operations. Not suited for combat they merely observe and gather data on the animals they are tasked with watching. Typically an Eland unit with come with a suite of Oxpecker observation drones to enhance its capabilities. These extra sets of eyes boost it's effectiveness in field. The horns are there for show, but if a situation arises demanding an Eland to engage in combat they can be used effectively.

Elands and other non-combatant drones are usually employed by conservation groups, wildlife research organizations, and NGO's. Though still expensive to purchase and maintain they are cheaper than a typical anti-poaching drone such as a Lion, Leopard, or a Buffalo. Some would argue that anti-poaching operations would not be needed if the animals were watched at all times by a fleet of observational drones. The debate is on going.

Wow... really detailed! With drones like this, wildlife management would be an "easy" and fun job. (I certanly want to work with an eland drone now xD Guess I need to stay with the trail cams xD)
Nice work!

It's a series of an imagined response to real world poaching issues. Crazy Asian's also got other tech styled after animals and lot's of world building text. It'd be an interesting animated series or game.

"Sales profits from any of the prints available in this series will be 100% donated to the IAPF (The International Anti-Poaching Foundation) to help them protect the wonderful animals of Africa."

Gotta say I love these designs. From an engineering perspective they are whimsically believable, like some sort of DARPA project refined and dressed up in camouflage made from kevlar and carbon fiber.

A quick question about the setting : Would military and police drones maintain the animal motif or do away with it entirely?

Loving the almost comic-book like feel to these new pictures. Gritty realism is great. Applied atmosphere is even better.

I can't wait for you to blow up in popularity so I can finally point to my friends and go, "Oh, yeah, that guy? Yeah, I totally knew him BEFORE he was popular."

I'll be looking out for you in the future.

These are so amazing i really hope you continue this amazing series and i hope humanity learns that we need are habitats and ecosystems protected in order to protect ourselves. i cant wait to see how a ranger would use a rattlesnake drone if that ever does happen.

Why is there a cheap carpet texture applied to the animal? It would be perfect without it.

I keep wondering if I'll open up my messages to find you've done a series of dinosaur drones ;)
